Paying your fare is about to get a whole lot easier.
Beginning June 1, Citilink riders will be able to use Tap to Pay on our fixed route buses.
Tap to Pay is a faster, more convenient way to board using the payment methods many people already use every day.
As we launch our new Tap to Pay system, it will initially be available for regular fare Ticket to Ride passes only ($1.50).
With Tap to Pay, riders can simply tap a contactless debit card, credit card, smartphone, or mobile wallet at the validator when boarding.
The new system is designed to make boarding easier for riders while helping speed up service across the system.
What is Tap to Pay?
Tap to Pay allows riders to pay their fare using contactless payment technology on our mobile validators.
Riders can use:
- Contactless debit or credit cards
- Apple Pay
- Google Pay
Contactless fare payments help create a smoother transit experience by reducing boarding delays and giving riders more flexibility in how they pay.
Instead of needing to purchase your fare ahead of time, you can now simply use the same payment methods you already carry with you daily!
Faster Boarding, Easier Riding
One of the biggest benefits of Tap to Pay is convenience.
Traditional cash transactions can take longer and require riders to have exact fare ready before boarding. Tap to Pay streamlines that process by allowing riders to quickly tap and board in seconds.
Faster boarding helps buses stay on schedule and improves the overall rider experience systemwide.
A More Modern Transit Experience
Transit systems across the country are increasingly moving toward contactless fare systems as part of broader efforts to modernize public transportation and improve accessibility for riders.
Citilink’s Tap to Pay rollout is part of a larger package of customer experience upgrades launching this summer, including:
- Fare capping / Pay As You Go
- All-day passes available onboard
- Transit App Royale enhancements
- Updated schedules and system maps
- Route improvements designed to improve reliability and connectivity
Together, these upgrades are focused on making transit simpler, more flexible, and easier to use.
Coming June 1!
Tap to Pay officially launches June 1 across the Citilink system.
More information about how to use Tap to Pay, fare capping, and other upcoming customer experience upgrades will continue to be shared throughout May at fwcitilink.com.
